Is it normal to have alot of throbbing 8 days after wisdom tooth extraction?

8 days ago I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed. Half way through the extraction my dentist broke the wisdom tooth in half and I had to be rushed off to a specialist. He then finished the extraction taking the bottom half of the wisdom tooth out and put a stitch in it. The pain subsided but I was taking Mersyndol Forte so I wouldn't have felt the pain anyway. The throbbing increased and I went back to my normal dentist and he packed the area with a dressing. My stitch is dissolvable it is still in there and the dressing remains 3 days after he put it in. The pain is shooting toward my right ear and shooting down my jaw. I'm gargling with Cepacaine as well as salty work and also taking 2 pain tablets every 6-8 hrs it's just taking the edge off but I'm wondering whether this is normal??? Also should I go back to my normal dentist or go back to the specialist that finished the extraction off?? Thanks would appreciate any advice. It's Sunday so I have to wait till tomorrow.
