How to scrunch wavy/straight hair?

so ive been trying to scrunch my hair for a REALLYY LONNGGG timee but it never seems to work., i have straight hair but the middle part of my hair is somewhat wavy.usually when i try to scrunch my hair it ends up lookin dry or it doesnt looked scrunchyy at all & thiss pisses me off.! i dont have the diffuser, ive been tryinig to buy it but i've been lagging it -____- soo does any one have any advice on what i can do to make my hair still look wet && be veryy scrunchy?
